Bottom Ring – .545

From Eras Gone directly:

“The classic ring-tail sharps was designed to have the paper cartridge tied to the base of the bullet, hence the “ring tail” at the base. This design will retain that feature, but will be improved in a few areas. Notably the diameter of the rings and the shape of the lube groves. The top ring is a “bore rider” meaning that is small enough to enter the bore and help center the bullet. it does not engrave on the rifling. The second two rings at .530 and .545 engrave to give the bullet the rotation it needs. Being centered on the bore riding ring provides greater accuracy. Most modern ring tail molds have a top ring that engraves also, which can cause the bullet to go through the bore slightly cockeyed, thus diminishing accuracy.

The bullet ring-tail has also been sized to receive the popular Hahn paper tubes, if you prefer easier cartridge preparation. Cartridges can also be prepared in the traditional manner by tying the envelope to the ring-tail.”

I have shot these bullets in Hahn cartridges myself, using my Pedersoli 1859 Berdan Sharps with great success out to 100yd. They are an excellent close-range target bullet for the recreational shooter looking for an easier way to feed their Sharps.

I cast them in alloy, and they are sold in boxes of 36, unlubricated.
