.75cal Ball Cartridges

$19.00$37.00

For the mighty Brown Bess, the musket that conquered the greater part of the globe during it’s service life. These massive cartridges follow the established pattern for smoothbore musket used up through the death of the smoothbore as a dominant arm in the 1860s. They can contain a regulation diameter .690″ ball, or a slightly larger .710″ ball to afford you somewhat better accuracy (I use that term generously here).

While the British Ordnance department decreed that the ball diameter for .75cal muskets to be .690″, valuing volume of fire and ease of loading over individual accuracy, in actual fact production varied widely. Original specimens have been recovered on Revolutionary War and Napoleonic War battlefields in a huge range of diameters between .690″ and the mid 70s, so I’ve provided a second option for those who wish to split the difference.
